The Challenge: An Obstacle Course on Sand Road
Life in New Milford, Connecticut, is generally picturesque. You’ve got the charm of the Town Green, the beauty of Candlewood Lake, and the crisp Litchfield County air. But for the Guertin family on Sand Road, starting the day was feeling less like a peaceful New England morning and more like an extreme winter sport.
As the “Before” photos plainly show, their bathroom featured a dated, high-walled bathtub wrapped in the kind of faded beige tile that screams “I peaked in 1995.” For anyone looking for a safe, relaxing wash, stepping over that tub threshold felt a bit too much like trying to hurdle a frozen snowbank in mid-February. Add in the wobbly suction-cup grab bars and a framed sliding door that liked to stick, and the daily shower had become a daily chore. The Guertins needed a bathroom that offered safety without sacrificing style.

The Solution: We Improve For You to the Rescue
The Guertins called in the experts at We Improve For You, who took one look at the beige barricade and knew exactly what to do. It was time to ditch the tub and bring in some modern luxury.
The process involved a complete tear-out of the old fiberglass tub and dated tile surround. In its place, the team executed a seamless tub-to-shower conversion. To ensure the space felt expansive and elegant, they selected the Pompeii wall system—a stunning, sweeping grey faux-marble pattern that immediately elevated the room’s aesthetic.
To maximize accessibility and safety, the team installed a low-threshold shower base and a heavy-duty, built-in corner bench. The plumbing was updated to a Shower Right configuration, featuring sleek, matte black fixtures, including a versatile handheld wand and a rainfall-style showerhead. Finally, to keep the water where it belongs, they framed it all in a Lightning matte black sliding glass door system, perfectly matching the securely mounted black grab bars.
The Outcome: Modern Elegance Meets Everyday Practicality
The “After” photos say it all. The Guertins’ bathroom went from a cramped, perilous beige box to a spacious, spa-like sanctuary.

The low-entry threshold and sturdy bench mean that navigating the shower is now a breeze—no athletic stretching required. The custom double-recessed niche keeps toiletries organized and off the floor, while the striking contrast between the Pompeii marble walls and the matte black hardware gives the room a sophisticated, modern edge.
Thanks to We Improve For You, the Guertins can now start their day with a relaxing, stylish shower experience—leaving the slips, trips, and hurdling for the icy New Milford sidewalks.
