The Story: Navigating Choppy Waters in the Whaling City
Living in New London, Connecticut, means you’re never far from the water. Whether you’re watching the ferries cross the Long Island Sound, strolling near Ocean Beach Park, or just trying to navigate a typical New England nor’easter, maritime life is in your blood. But for our client, Hamilton, the most treacherous body of water wasn’t the Thames River—it was the bathtub at 16 Bellevue Place.
As the “Before” photos clearly show, Hamilton’s bathroom was harboring an old, molded fiberglass bathtub that required the agility of a Coast Guard cadet just to climb into. With an awkward showerhead retrofitted onto the wall and a step-over height that was practically asking for a slip-and-fall, the daily shower routine was less “relaxing spa” and more “obstacle course.” The measuring tape was out, the calculations were made, and it became glaringly obvious: the bulky tub had to walk the plank.
Enter the crew at We Improve For You.
We knew Hamilton needed a bathroom that offered the safety of a dry dock with the luxury of a modern resort. We set to work tearing out the restrictive fiberglass tub to make way for a sprawling, low-threshold walk-in shower.

Opting for a crisp, timeless White tile-patterned wall surround, we immediately brightened the space, making it feel twice as large without moving a single stud. To accommodate the room’s layout and Hamilton’s preferences, we implemented a Shower Right configuration, outfitting the right-hand wall with a dual-threat rainfall showerhead and handheld sprayer combo that actually looks like it belongs there.
Because safety and comfort shouldn’t mean compromising on style, we installed three heavy-duty chrome grab bars and a sleek, built-in corner bench seat. Throw in a recessed double-niche for shampoo storage (goodbye, cluttered corner caddies!), and Hamilton’s bathroom was successfully transformed from a 1990s relic into a modern, accessible oasis. We even managed to keep the bidet-equipped toilet right where it belongs, unbothered by the renovation storm.

Project Summary
- The Challenge: An outdated, high-step fiberglass bathtub that made daily bathing a cramped and potentially hazardous chore. The existing setup lacked accessibility, modern aesthetics, and efficient storage.
- The Solution: We Improve For You executed a complete tub-to-shower conversion. We removed the old unit and installed a low-threshold shower pan, bright White simulated-tile acrylic walls, built-in seating, integrated recessed shelving, and strategically placed chrome grab bars for safety. The plumbing was expertly updated in a Shower Right layout featuring modern, versatile showerheads.
- The Outcome: A safe, stunning, and spacious walk-in shower that dramatically improves both the accessibility and visual appeal of the bathroom. Hamilton now has a daily routine that is less “abandon ship” and more “smooth sailing.”
