Living in Fairfield, Connecticut means enjoying the beautiful coastal vibes of Penfield Beach in the summer and surviving the bone-chilling, damp Nor’easters in the winter. When you come inside from a freezing New England evening, your shower should be a warm, welcoming sanctuary—not a claustrophobic tiled box that demands a toothbrush and a weekend of scrubbing just to keep the grout clean.
Our client, Silk, was dealing with exactly that: a dated shower enclosure that felt more like a chore than a retreat. Silk brought in We Improve For You to drag this bathroom out of the past and into the present.
The Challenge: The Tile Time Capsule
Take a look at the “Before” photos, and you can practically hear the 1990s calling. Silk’s existing shower had a few glaring issues:

- Storage Struggles: Silk’s shower products were balancing precariously on aftermarket wire racks and corner shelves, cluttering the space.

- Tear Out & Open Up: We completely removed the old tiled walls and the claustrophobic bulkhead ceiling. This immediately opened up the vertical space, allowing the bathroom’s natural lighting to actually reach the shower pan.
- Seamless Solid Surface: We replaced the tiled nightmare with a stunning, seamless “White” solid-surface wall system. No grout lines means no scrubbing—just a quick wipe down.
- Built-In Brilliance: We integrated sleek, molded shelving directly into the walls to eliminate the need for hanging caddies. We also added a sturdy built-in corner seat, perfect for relaxing under the hot water after a long day in the CT cold.
- Modern Fixtures & Glass: We installed a premium chrome shower system featuring a versatile handheld wand on an adjustable slide bar. Finally, we wrapped it all behind a sleek, minimalist sliding glass door that showcases the clean new interior rather than hiding it behind bulky metal framing.
