Low-e coatings are baked into our glass to increase reflectivity of sunlight
In addition- we need to increase the insulation quality of the glass- the way around that is to put gas inbetween the panes of glass that is heavier than air. Our solution is argon Which is
Nothing Less than double we coat our glass with highly reflective low-e coatings and using argon stabilized with nitrogen to prevent cold from entering through the glass in the winter
Once we add the third pane... the heating company gets very sad in the winter.. We add the additional pane which allows another piece of glass for low-e coatings and another glass chamber that we fill with nitrogen stabilized argon. This creates an R value of roughly 5. This is over 5 times more than a typical piece of glass. It also is roughly 25%~ more efficient than the double paned variant.
